OLIVER NELSON
Oliver’s career in the golf industry began here at Terravita in 2021. Golf has always been a passion of his, ever since he first swung a club at age 3. He played competitively as a junior in the Minnesota Junior Golf Assocation from 2000-2004. After moving to Arizona from Minnesota in 2017, Oliver has found a home here thanks to the golf industry.
Over the past 3 years, his golf knowledge and experience have grown exponentially thanks to the Terravita team and the on the job experience. He is currently pursuing his PGA PGM certification as a Level 1 Apprentice.
He played baseball in college and his love of sports, competition, and learning and teaching golf has helped shape his future for golf instruction.
Oliver’s teaching philosophy is something he was taught at a very young age: “The game of golf is 90% mental and 10% skill.” This mindset was the first thing he learned at a very young age from his first and only golf instructor, a head professional from Prescott, AZ. He believes that golf is a sport for anybody and we all have different strengths and abilities that we need to tap into in order to maximize our potential.
With a background in hospitality, Oliver has learned throughout the years that we all communicate, learn, and understand concepts differently from one another. He has applied that knowledge to his instructional method by first understanding each student’s learning style, then adapting the coaching and instruction accordingly.
We all have the ability to be better golfers but it starts within our own minds.
“Success depends less on the strength of the body than on the strength of the mind” -Arnold Palmer
